The world’s best-loved musical, The Sound Of Music, straight from Broadway in New York, will be gracing the Hong Kong stage starting on April 16, 2024! And due to its roaring popularity, new dates have been added!
The impressive production will be celebrating the perennial family classic’s 65th anniversary and will be staged at the Grand Theater of the Xiqu Center in the West Kowloon Cultural District.
The musical tells the beautiful true story of Maria, a governess who brings music, love, and laughter back into the lives of the widowed Captain Von Trapp and his seven children, leading to their escape across the Austrian mountains before World War II.
The production features classic songs like “Do-Re-Mi,” “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “Edelweiss,” “My Favorite Things,” and the title song, “The Sound of Music.” The Broadway International Group presents the musical in a retouched version that combines originality with the timeless appeal of the original musical and film. The tour has received acclaim in Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, and India, and is set to open in Shanghai.
“The Sound of Music” is one of the most popular Broadway musicals, winning five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and a GRAMMY Award for Best Show Album. The film adaptation, starring the magnificent Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, also received critical acclaim, winning five Oscars, including Best Picture, and is a truly beloved family classic.
