ACT & SAT EXAM PREPARATION TIPS AND EXAM INFORMATION (2026):

To prepare for the Enhanced ACT and Digital SAT, start at least 3-6 months before your test date. Be sure to register early, as deadlines are usually 4-5 weeks before the test. Here are key tips to guide your preparation:

1. Set Your Target Score

Research the score requirements of your target colleges and set a specific goal. Studies show that setting clear goals improves focus and results.

2. Take a Diagnostic Test and Choose Your Test

Begin with a diagnostic test to identify strengths and weaknesses. Choose the test that suits you best:

• Digital SAT: Use the Bluebook app, which offers four adaptive practice tests that simulate the real exam.  Khan Academy is very popular for SAT practice tests and studying.
• Enhanced ACT: Access free practice tests on ACT.org or platforms like Piqosity, which offers 12 Enhanced ACT practice tests.

3. Create a Study Plan

Develop a study plan that includes materials, a daily schedule, time management, and focus areas. Consistency is key—make daily practice a habit and use a variety of resources.

4. Use Updated Official Materials

For Digital SAT:

• The Official Digital SAT Study Guide: Includes four practice tests with detailed instructions. Available here and on Amazon.
• Bluebook app: Offers adaptive practice tests and analytics.

• For ACT, use official practice tests reflecting the new shorter format. Memorize section instructions to save time on test day.

6. Know the Updated Test Formats

• Digital SAT (2026)

  • Total time: 2 hours 14 minutes (plus a 10‑minute break between sections).

  • Fully digital, multi‑stage adaptive format with two modules in each section.

Reading & Writing: 54 questions in 64 minutes, all short passages (25–150 words) with one question each. Math: 44 questions in 70 minutes, mix of multiple‑choice and student‑produced responses; calculator allowed for all questions.

  Enhanced ACT (from 2025 onwards)

  • Core test time (English, Math, Reading only): about 2 hours 5–15 minutes, depending on whether you include short breaks.

  • Required sections: English, Math, and Reading; Science and Writing are now optional add‑ons.

  • English: 50 questions in 35 minutes. Math: 45 questions in 50 minutes. Reading: 36 questions in 40 minutes. Optional Science: 40 questions in 40 minutes; optional Writing: one 40‑minute essay.

7. Utilize Free Resources

• Khan Academy: Offers free SAT prep but no longer hosts full-length tests (available only on Bluebook).
• ACT.org: Provides accurate Enhanced ACT practice materials.

8. Build Foundational Skills

Read classic literature, essays, and narratives regularly to improve comprehension for the Digital SAT’s shorter, denser passages.
