Brought to you by The Lo & Behold Group and Sunray Group Holdings, New Bahru is Singapore’s first creative cluster, located at 46 & 58 Kim Yam Road in River Valley. Housed in the former Nan Chiau High School, which dates back to the 1940s before the school moved to Sengkang in 2001, the site officially opened as New Bahru in May 2024.
The name “New Bahru” (Bahru meaning “New” in Malay) reflects the project’s aim to foster a fresh creative community, embracing the local flair for emphasizing words through repetition, such as swee swee, play-play, and jalan jalan.
New Bahru stands out with its curatorial approach, emphasizing unique concepts and strong community bonds. It gathers change-makers from various fields, each pushing the envelope in their own way. Collaborating with leading design studios like Hjgher, Wynk, and Parable, every brand takes on its boldest challenge yet—pioneering new-to-market concepts, adding innovative twists to traditional expansions, or transforming online ventures into physical experiences.
What is new for 2026?
Also new to New Bahru: The Coconut Club (signature nasi lemak) and Good Addition (fashion and lifestyle) at the School Block, plus wellness studio Future Resonance. Families can also enjoy New Bahru’s pickleball courts, which operate 24 hours on most days.
New Bahru has since expanded with the Factory Block, adding more restaurants and retail to the original School Block lineup. The site also retains much of its original schoolhouse charm, with touches like the old school hall, staircases, and restrooms still visible throughout. Yes. This former school campus at 46 and 58 Kim Yam Road has a free Oatside Funside playground with Singapore’s tallest outdoor communal slide, Kiztopia Prestige role-play rooms for ages 4 and under, and a nursing room on Level 1 of the School Block.
How do I get to New Bahru with kids?
Fort Canning MRT (DT20) is about a 13-minute walk. Buses 32, 54, 139 and 195 stop before Kim Yam Road. A free shuttle runs between Somerset and New Bahru every 30 minutes. Pair the visit with nearby Fort Canning Park.
What can kids do at New Bahru besides shopping?
Start at the free Oatside playground and Pocket Pack Challenge, then book Kiztopia Prestige play time. Workshops at PeiPer, soilboy and The Sea Apple suit crafty kids. Tenant hours vary, so check before you go.

The hub is open daily from 10am to 10pm, though shops keep their own hours. On-site outdoor parking has 136 car lots and one family lot. Cars cost $2 for the first hour and SG$1 every extra 30 minutes. Afterward, wander nearby Tiong Bahru.

In addition to giving Singapore’s tallest outdoor communal slide a whirl at the Oatside Funside Playground, the little and not-so-little ones can try to collect as many oat milk miniatures as possible in just 15 seconds with Oatside’s signature Pocket Pack Challenge.
In the ramp-up to its grand opening, New Bahru welcomes new additions to the tenant community such as CLOS | Deli & Wine House, LVT by Lisa Von Tang, PeiPer, and POV by The Missing Piece. More information on the tenants’ operating hours can be found on their respective websites.
New Bahru has also expanded with the Factory Block, adding new restaurants and retail such as SUSHIRO, Dumpling Darlings and BEAMS, plus a pickleball court that operates 24 hours on most days.

There is a free daily shuttle bus between Somerset and New Bahru, departing every 30 minutes. The nearest MRT station is Fort Canning, around a 10- to 15-minute walk away. Bus services 32, 54, 139, 195 and 195A stop before Kim Yam Road, while services 64, 123 and 143 stop at UE Square.
On-site parking is limited, with alternative parking available within a five-minute walk along Kim Yam Road, Martin Place, Mohamed Sultan Road and Unity Street, as well as at the Singapore Buddhist Lodge, The Pier at Robertson, Sultan Link, Lam Ann Building, UE Square and 22 Martin Road.
