Monash University has announced the succession of Professor Matthew Nicholson as the new Pro Vice-Chancellor and President (Indonesia), taking over from the retiring foundation Pro Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Andrew MacIntyre, on 19 February 2024. Professor Nicholson, who previously enhanced the research and development sector at Monash University, Malaysia, and served as its Interim CEO and Pro Vice-Chancellor and President, aims to further elevate Monash University Indonesia as a premier postgraduate institution in Southeast Asia. He brings a record of strategic leadership and operational management to his new role, where he will continue to strengthen the university's leadership in education and research. WELLINGTON COLLEGE INTERNATIONAL: New Opening In September 2024

Wellington College International, in partnership with Singaporean businessman Peter Lim of Wellington College International Regional Management (WCIRM), is set to expand its educational reach with the opening of Wellington College Jakarta in Indonesia in September 2024. Located near Pondok Indah in South Jakarta, the school will initially welcome Reception to Year 4 students in an upscale development, designed as an urban sanctuary, and will eventually develop into a full K-12 campus. In alignment with the ethos of all Wellington College International schools, the Jakarta institution aims to be at the forefront of education in the region, focusing on an exceptional, innovative curriculum to equip students with the necessary knowledge, skills, and character to succeed in an ever-evolving global landscape.

Sekolah Pelita Harapan: High Achievements Amongst Students

SPH Kemang Village is proud to highlight the outstanding accomplishments of its students during the second term of 2023. Seven students have particularly stood out for their achievements in various areas.

Giselle, a Grade 10 student, has excelled in Model United Nations (MUN), debates, and speech competitions. Her achievements include a top placement in the WSC Bangkok Global Round debate and first place in the Global Science Olympiad 2023. Giselle also leads a MUN club to encourage and mentor her peers in these activities.

Aurelia, a Grade 7 student, has demonstrated talent and commitment as a young equestrian. She achieved a first-place victory at the FEI Jumping World Cup in 2020 and recently placed 10th in a competitive field at The Jakarta Horse Show Jumping 2023.

Zee and Emilie, students in Grades 11 and 6, have excelled in music. They participated in a hymn concert organized by Yayasan Musik Amadeus, showcasing their musical abilities and dedication to their craft despite busy academic schedules.

Alaska Gracia Christie Sirait, a Grade 11 student, achieved the status of 1st runner-up in GADIS Sampul 2023, competing against numerous participants nationwide. She also secured the Top 1 position in the National Schools Debating Championships of DKI Jakarta 2023, reflecting her well-rounded talents and academic prowess.

Edmund, a Grade 10 student, founded the Light Ministry Orchestra and led a concert titled "A Night of Light" with fellow students Caitlyn, Abigail, Keeve, Mikhail, and Jane. The group demonstrated their musical skills and a commitment to inclusivity and outreach through their performance.

Ewald, a Grade 6 student, earned an honorable mention in the 2023 JQA International Environmental Children's Drawing Contest, distinguishing himself among entries from 83 countries. His achievement underscores the school's support for creative expression and artistic development.

GLOBAL SEVILLA: World Scholars Cup Regional Round – Jakarta (May 6-8, 2023)

The World Scholars Cup's Jakarta high school regional round recently concluded with over 1,300 students from the Jabodetabek area participating. GSPI sent 10 teams to the competition, which began with intense training sessions in 2022. The event spanned three days, with activities such as Team Debates, Collaborative Writing, Scholars’ Quiz, and the Scholars' Bowl, culminating in an award ceremony at the Ciputra Artpreneur Theatre. GSPI students excelled, securing numerous awards including 56 golds, 67 silvers, and a group trophy. Both GSPI and the sister school GSPM had teams qualify for the Global Round, indicating a successful outcome and the fostering of community and friendship in line with the WSC ethos. Best wishes to the GSPI/GSPM teams as they prepare for the upcoming Global Rounds in Bangkok and Seoul.
