Tucked away amidst the hustle and bustle of Indonesia's modern capital is Kota Tua Jakarta, the Old Batavia area of the city. Covering about 320 acres (1.3 square km), this quaint part of Jakarta has an old-world charm about it and gives you a chance to learn more about the history of the city. Gelora Bung Karno or GBK is the largest sports complex in Jakarta and is open to the public. Many areas can be used for free, many families go to the outer skirts of the stadium for walking, biking, or running. There's a park with greeneries for picnic grounds and leisure activities called Hutan Kota GBK where you can find a fish pond and an amphitheater. If you like to do sports, they have courts and fields for rent.

If you have a toddler or small child in tow, Jakarta has a plethora of indoor and outdoor playgrounds you can go to. The outdoor ones are great for nice weather, but on rainy days you can choose the indoor air-conditioned playgrounds instead. Almost every mall in Jakarta has a playground on-site, while some of the outdoor ones have a small waterpark area.

The National Monument or more commonly called, Monas, is a legendary icon of Jakarta city. The 137-meter tall marble obelisk is topped with a flame coated with 35kg of gold.
