With a brand-new afternoon programme, The Maker’s Atelier, recently launched for Pre-Kindergarten, Hong Kong Academy is challenging the conventional understanding of what learning is for and how it should happen. You can find out more at the upcoming HKA Exploration Day in October 2026!
Children will enjoy a specialist teacher session and then team up with a parent to engage in an hour-long Maker’s Atelier project. Using real-life tools and materials, families will dive into a hands-on maker project designed to spark curiosity and develop questioning and fine motor skills. A complimentary fruit snack will be provided; please bring your own water bottles.

When is Hong Kong Academy Exploration Day in October 2026?
Saturday 24 October 2026, 9am–1.30pm at 33 Wai Man Road, Sai Kung. Entry is free. The morning is built for Playgroup and Pre-K families who want a real look at campus life before applying.
What can toddlers and Pre-K kids do at HKA Exploration Day?
Children start with a specialist teacher session, then join a parent for an hour-long Maker’s Atelier project using real tools. They can use the gymnastics space and trampolines, visit the library for story time, and explore the mud kitchen, bug hunt, and sensory gardens. A fruit snack is provided; bring water bottles.
How do I register for the HKA Exploration Day?
Complete one RSVP form per child on this page. Spaces are limited, so book early. Each child must come with at least one adult (maximum two). Apply for Playgroup on the school site if you want a place for 2026/27.
Does HKA Playgroup help with Pre-K admission?
Yes. Consistent Playgroup attendance can waive the Pre-K assessment. If you later enrol, Playgroup fees become a tuition deposit.
What if I cannot attend Exploration Day?
HKA runs personalised campus tours year-round and Online Information Sessions every Tuesday evening. More Hong Kong school dates sit on the open house calendar.
The Maker’s Atelier is an innovative workshop environment tailored exclusively for students enrolled in HKA’s Pre-K classes. Rooted in the world-renowned Reggio Emilia approach, young children are empowered as competent, curious, and natural researchers.
Hot off the press! The newest conversation at HKA is not another worksheet pack. The Maker’s Atelier is the optional after-school workshop for children enrolled in Pre-K, typically ages 3–4, and Exploration Day is when many parents first hear how it sits beside the morning programme.
Kids Can Test It Out On Exploration Day! On Exploration Day, younger children still get a specialist teacher session and then an hour-long parent-and-child maker-style project. That Saturday project is the taster; the atelier itself starts once Pre-K is underway. A complimentary fruit snack is provided. Bring your own water bottles.
Designed for students who are intellectually curious, intrinsically motivated, and interculturally minded, the Exploration Day offers unique insight into HKA’s teaching philosophy, robust academic programmes, and world-class facilities.
Attendees can join specialist activities and faculty-led workshops, connect directly with expert faculty and Principals, tour the school with current parents and students, and receive valuable tips from the Admissions team.
What Students Love About Exploration Day? Workshops, climbing, and maker projects feel like a normal HKA morning, not a staged open day.
HKA encourages all families to visit their award-winning, sustainable campus in Sai Kung to learn more about their programmes and experience their state-of-the-art facilities.
If you can't make it to Exploration Day, don't worry, as they are open all year round for personalized school tours and offer Online Information Sessions every Tuesday evening.
