CIS Is Expanding Its Bilingual Programs!

Reading CIS Singapore

Parents can look forward to more of Canadian International School’s (CIS) pioneering Chinese-English and French-English bilingual programs in the next school year of 2022/2023.

Meet the school’s principals and academic team at the next CIS Open House on 18 and 19 November at 9am. Limited spaces are available so sign up here now!

Currently available to students in pre-kindergarten to grade 6, the program has been so well-received that the Chinese-English bilingual program now has 47 classes and will be extended to nursery students, while the French-English bilingual program will be expanded to grade 6.

CIS’ bilingual programs are fully aligned with the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP) and are known for its 50:50 teaching model, which sees students being taught in English one day, and in Chinese or French the next. It’s an approach that ensures equal exposure to both languages without translation or repetition.

Students also learn about each culture as research shows speaking a language without understanding its culture has very little real-world value.

This successful model has produced excellent results: Chinese-English and French-English bilingual students have performed well in intentionally recognised exams such as the Youth Chinese Test and DELF.

PS: Have younger children? Then consider attending the CIS Kindergarten Open House on 11 and 12 November to learn all about the benefits of purposeful play, with fun activities to show how the school applies this to concepts like literacy, math and STEAM.

Why Little Steps Loves It:

Thanks to its excellent track record and experience in the region, CIS’ Chinese-English and French-English bilingual programmes are trusted and valued among parents. The programmes see students become not only bilingual but bi-literate and bicultural.

Who It's Perfect For:

Families of primary school children who are looking for a tried and tested bilingual program that develops fluent communicators through a fun and engaging learning approach.

What Else:

Open houses are the perfect way for families to hear from the CIS Head of School and academic team about the CIS ethos and school life and see classes in action. There will also be a chance to meet the CIS principals and ask your questions.
