If a warm, homey, and welcoming Chinese-Indonesian noodle dish is what you want, then Kwetiau Akang is the place you would want to go to! Open and running since 1960 in Medan, this family-owned restaurant has been passed down for decades and is now owned by the third generation.
Their food is absolutely delicious, as the recipe has been refined and improved over the years. Their secret family recipe is so special that the family members are the ones working the wok. The perfect combination of the savory meat, flat noodles, and mild spices mix together harmoniously in their seafood kwetiau, whilst the sweetness and smell of the in-house-made Liang teh is pleasing to the tongue.
Meanwhile, there is also a delicious variety of Tomat sauce, such as Kwetiau Tomat, Mie Tomat, Nasi Tomat, and Bihun Tomat, all of which come with a “Special” option! And obviously, being a Chinese restaurant, they have a selection of rice dishes to choose from. Nasi goreng, Nasi Tomat, and Nasi Siram are just a few examples.
The legendary Kwetiau Akang has several locations all around Jakarta and the surrounding area. From the first Jakarta location in Muara Karang to the one in Pondok Indah, there’s probably one close enough for you to go to or order from! For deliveries, check out GoFood and GrabFood apps.
