At Books & Brains, they help children read, spell and write in a way that is backed by the science of reading and developmentally appropriate for their age. They focus on early literacy development and support for struggling readers and spellers.

To teach children effectively, Books & Brains utilizes the Science of Reading, an interdisciplinary body of scientifically-based research that supports educators on how the brain actually learns to read. At Books & Brains, this translates to effective prevention and intervention programs.
Younger children aged 3-4 join Sounders, which lays the foundation for later spelling and prevents reading delays. Sounders teaches phonemic awareness alongside phonics skills such as letter recognition, blending and even spelling!
Children 4.5 years and above join Coders, which is an intensive (but fun!) program that teaches all the phonics skills, meeting your child where they are at. More advanced readers are stretched up to read longer words and sentences. This is not a word-reading program – your child will be reading books from the get-go!
When children know their initial code, they are ready for Encoders and SPaG (Spelling, Punctuation & Grammar), which lays the foundation for excellent spelling and writing that will serve them in their academic careers in primary and beyond.
The intensive 1:1 or 1:2 Literacy Clinic works with children who need extra support in their reading and spelling journeys. All children are assessed before placement.
A parent club, Parents Making Readers will launch in October and help support parents and other carers at home in helping children read and spelling in a way that aligns with research.
Assessments will focus on decoding and spelling skills, rather than reading comprehension. Children placed in the Literacy Clinic will have a Learning Plan which considers children’s ages and school targets (when appropriate). Feedback, even for group students, are individual and regularly given.
