Meet WestK's New Harbourfront Theatre Hub For Families
Hong Kong families can start pencilling in a 2027 waterfront arts day now. The WestK Performing Arts Centre is rising on Victoria Harbour as Asia’s next dance and theatre hub, joining Xiqu Centre and Freespace, so you can pair a show with lawn time, harbour views and a picnic. Designed by UNStudio with AD+RG, it adds a 1,450-seat Grand Theatre, a 600-seat Medium Theatre and a 270-seat Studio Theatre, plus a roof garden and open foyers you can enjoy long after the curtain falls. Until it opens, FunFest, Freespace and Art Park already deliver the same West Kowloon rhythm.
A family destination in the making. The building is designed as a daytime gathering place, not just a night-time auditorium. Harbourfront terraces, glass foyers and a rooftop garden mean you can “see and be seen” — even on a stroller loop with a toddler and no tickets in hand. WestK places the centre on the waterfront south of Artist Square, linked to the Quayside Promenade, so a performance slots naturally into a bigger West Kowloon day alongside M+, the Hong Kong Palace Museum and the lawns.
Three theatres, three attention spans. The Grand Theatre (about 1,450 seats) is built for dance, musicals and big nights out. The Medium Theatre (600 seats) will be Hong Kong’s most tech-forward hall of its size, with Meyer Sound Constellation acoustics tuned for contemporary theatre and dance. The Studio Theatre (270 seats) is the intimate room for smaller, text-driven plays. Together with Xiqu Centre and Freespace, WestK will offer ten venues and more than 4,500 seats — genuinely useful when one child is ready to sit through a 40-minute piece and the other still needs a run on the grass.

Can we still take kids to WestK before 2027?

How do we get there with a stroller?
Head to 8 Austin Road West, Tsim Sha Tsui, near Artist Square and the Quayside Promenade. MTR plus a harbourfront walk is easiest. Glass foyers, terraces and a planned roof garden are designed as daytime gathering space, not lobby-only.
Should we pair a show with M+ or the Palace Museum?
