Surfing Hong Kong Guide – Kids Surfing Lessons And Camps

Surfing In Hong Kong With Kids

Surfing Hong Kong - Lessons, Camps, Where To Go

It’s time to pull out the itsy-bitsies, beach towels, sunscreen…and head to the beach. Want to do a bit more than just play in the sand?  Hit the waves with your little surfer dudes and dudettes. Here’s all you need to get on the board in Hong Kong.  Surfing lessons, camps, where to buy surfboards in Hong Kong – it’s all here.

When to go surfing in Hong Kong?
Winter: Tai Long Wan Bay has three beaches – Tai Wan, Ham Tin and Sai Wan. In the winter, these waves can be some of the best in Hong Kong with Tai Wan having the most powerful surf with strong rip tides.

Summer: During the summer months, swells arrive in HK from the south and can bring some great waves to the beaches of South Lantau. Check out Pui O and Cheung Sha during this time.

Year-round: Big Wave Bay (go early to avoid the crowds).

Tai Long Wan - Surf Hong Kong

This stretch of pristine beach in Sai Kung might be harder to get to, but you’ll have the surf to yourself. There’s a small shop with basic meals and surfing rentals. Take the MTR to Diamond Hill then catch the KMB 94 bus to Wong Shek Pier. From the pier, hire a sampan to go directly to the beach or Chek King (depending on the waves). The hike from Chek King to the beach is 30-45 min.  Surf Hong Kong is one of the leading surf schools in Hong Kong, offering lessons, tours, kid’s adventure camps and school programs for individuals to large school groups.  Click here on how to get to this school.
