New York’s famed performing arts conservatory, The Juilliard School joins forces with Nord Anglia International School in Hong Kong to become one of the world’s first to launch a new arts curriculum developed by Juilliard specialists. Focusing first on music, the curriculum is based around 12 core works from a range of cultures, genres and historical periods (Bach, Beethoven, Stravinsky, Traditional Chinese, Mozart, Gershwin and John Williams to name a few), each one carefully chosen to expose children to a wealth of new experiences, exploring music for drama, ancient instruments, film, the orchestra, small ensembles and the soloist, among others.
Designed to encourage discipline, creativity and confidence in children, as well as critical thinking, cultural literacy and collaboration, the carefully thought-out music curriculum has been developed with transferable skills in mind so that it is of benefit even to those not as interested in learning music.
The music curriculum is designed for all students, not only those keen to learn an instrument or to develop their musical performance.
Drama and dance curriculum will be rolled out to all Nord Anglia schools in the coming years, and a performing arts summer program will be launching soon too.
