We all know how invaluable our domestic helpers are. Whether you are a working professional, a mom, or superhumanly juggle the two, a home helper makes our lives easier and less stressful. Your helper can take all sorts of finance short courses and classes to effectively manage your home budget allowance, make sound decisions with her own money, and help her plan for the future.
Interestingly, migrant workers make up 10 percent of Hong Kong’s workforce. When seeking employment in Hong Kong, they are often charged HK$15,000 in fees. Their minimum wage salaries tend to be just shy of HK$5,000 per month, meaning they pay three months of their salaries to clear their loans, some to high-interest loan sharks. Many domestic helpers come to Hong Kong to support their own families in their home countries such as the Philippines or Indonesia. On average, domestic helpers will send 60 percent of their monthly income back to their families. Almost 75 percent of employees often take out loans without knowing how to repay them or borrow to help their families with money for typhoon damage and medical expenses.
Enrich runs interactive workshops and activities at weekends and public holidays in the native languages of the helpers, which includes Tagalog and Bahasa Indonesia. The interactive workshops provide life-changing solutions and equip your helpers with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to escape miserable debt and plan for their future. The volunteers create a safe and trusted learning environment for these vulnerable people who might otherwise work for decades with very little or nothing to show for it. You can sponsor your helper through the Enrich sponsorship program to ensure that she receives the necessary advice to keep her safe and in control of her finances. Various sponsorship packages are available, from an introductory counseling appointment to the full Enrich program, which comprises five financial, empowerment educational workshops and support.
