A world of pure imagination

Follow young Charlie Bucket as his golden ticket unlocks the gates to Willy Wonka’s mysterious factory — a place of chocolate rivers, nut-sorting squirrels, mind-bending illusions and an army of mischievous Oompa-Loompas. Expect eye-popping visuals, larger-than-life characters, plenty of audience interaction and a live orchestra that keeps the whole confection bubbling.

First seen in London’s West End in 2013 before dazzling Broadway in 2017, this spectacular production pairs an original score by Grammy- and Tony Award-winning duo Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray) with much-loved favourites from the 1971 film, including Pure Imagination, The Candy Man and I’ve Got a Golden Ticket.

The magic is more than metaphorical: illusions are designed by Tim Clothier, the Las Vegas–based specialist who spent a decade creating illusions for David Copperfield. Leading the cast is Daniel Plimpton as the enigmatic Willy Wonka — a Broadway National Tour veteran of Waitress, The Book of Mormon and Disney’s Newsies — alongside 10-year-old Oliver Wong as Charlie Bucket, making his touring debut. Further casting is still to be announced.

Sweetening the deal, The Peninsula joins as official hotel partner with themed stays, dining experiences and exclusive show packages.

Who is it for?

• Families with children aged 6 and up – the sweet spot for the show’s humour, spectacle and running time. Under-14s must be accompanied by an adult at all times, and children aged 3 or under aren’t admitted to the auditorium.
