Tales Of The Crawlers At The Mills: A Nature-Themed Halloween In Hong Kong

A Free Rare Creatures Showcase, Hands-On Animal Encounters And Family Workshops In Tsuen Wan

Updated: October 19, 2026

2026 Oct 10 - 2026 Nov 01

MEET CREEPY crawlies tsuen wan

This Halloween, The Mills is skipping the ghosts and turning the season into a nature adventure. Tales of the Crawlers runs from Saturday, October 10 to Sunday, November 1, 2026 at G/F, Mill 6. At its centre is a free Curious Creatures Showcase of rare arthropods, reptiles and small mammals.

Little ones can look for an African pygmy mouse that weighs less than a HK$5 coin, an Emperor scorpion that glows under UV light, a blue-tongued skink, and a spiny leaf insect that looks just like a dried leaf. Several species are on public display in Hong Kong for the first time, and experts from HKIEC lead free guided tours every weekend.

Want to get hands-on? Paid extras include creature touch sessions, a junior keeper programme, carnival games, a kids’ costume catwalk, slime-making, face painting and trick-or-treating. Spots are limited, so book through The Mills website.

The Scoop – What to Expect

  • Start with the free showcase. It’s a great no-commitment outing. See if your kids can spot the tiny pygmy mouse (about 5g), the “smiling” White’s tree frog and the Emperor scorpion glowing under UV light. For more of the science, join a 20-minute weekend tour at 2pm, 3pm or 4pm. You don’t need to book.
  • Curious Carnival (weekends and public holidays, 12pm–6pm) is perfect for little hands. Kids get a creature headband and pass, then play Caterpillar Ring Toss, launch bugs in Let the Bug Fly, and make their own critter at Clay Creature Studio. Each session lasts 45 minutes, so come early to get a spot.
  • For animal lovers: In the Touch & Feel Adventure (HK$80, 25 minutes), an instructor guides kids as they meet 8 of 22 species, which change every weekend. Animals include a Hercules beetle, a tarantula and a corn snake. Junior Keeper (HK$150, 11am-12pm) lets budding zookeepers help feed and care for the animals and take home a certificate. There are only 10 spots per session, so book early.
  • Costume catwalk: On October 31, kids walk the runway dressed as insects or forest spirits (check-in from 3pm). November 1 is the pet edition, so bring your dressed-up furry friends. Every participant gets a gift pack, and top prizes include The Mills e-coupons.
  • More Halloween fun:
    • Pose by the giant 3-metre pumpkin on the 3/F rooftop.
    • Face painting: October 31-November 1, 12pm–5pm (limited spots).
    • Slimeaholic’s Halloween Slime Workshop: October 24, 25, 31 and November 1 (HK$180).
    • Trick-or-treat with candy ambassadors: October 31–November 1, 2pm–6pm. Costumes are a must!
  • Snack stop: The Pitch-Black Delights Eatery market (1/F, Mill 6) runs October 30-November 1, 1pm-8pm. Expect black-themed treats made with black truffle, squid ink, charcoal and chocolate.
  • Parent tips: All floors work with strollers and have lifts, and there are accessible toilets on G/F of Mill 6.
