Kai Tak Hospital To Open In 2026: Hong Kong’s Largest Public Hospital
Huge State Of The Art Inpatient & Outpatient Facilities Opening In Phases Starting October 2026
Hong Kong is set to welcome Kai Tak Hospital (KTH), its largest and most advanced public hospital, starting in October 2026. With cutting-edge technology and comprehensive services, KTH will transform healthcare for over 1.8 million residents across Kowloon.
Here’s what you need to know:
- Size and Scale
Covering 500,000 square meters with 2,400 beds, KTH will serve the Yau Tsim Mong, Kowloon City, Wong Tai Sin, and Kwun Tong districts as the flagship healthcare hub for the Kowloon Central Cluster. - World-Class Facilities
The hospital will feature five towers, 37 operating theatres, and specialist centers like the Oncology and Neuroscience Centres. It’s also the first public hospital in Hong Kong to install a cyclotron, enabling in-house production of diagnostic tracers for oncology and radiology services. - Opening Timeline
- Phase 1 (October 2026): Outpatient clinics for Family Medicine, Oncology, Surgery, Neurosurgery, and related diagnostic services.
- Phase 2 (2028): Inpatient care, surgery, and 24-hour Accident and Emergency services.
- Emergency and Trauma Readiness
As a designated trauma center, KTH will provide 24/7 emergency services, ensuring critical care for urgent cases and serious incidents. - Patient-Centered Transition
Clinical services from Queen Elizabeth Hospital will move to KTH in stages. Patients will be informed of changes via phone, text, mail, or the “HA Go” app. Assistance is also available through the KTH Hotline (+852 3506 5188).
