Celebrate World Oceans Day at Hong Kong’s beautiful Hoi Ha Wan Marine Park! Home to 64 of the 84 species of stony corals found in Hong Kong, Hoi Ha Wan has been a Site of Special Scientific Interest since 1986.
This wonderful destination is loved for its diverse flora and fauna. You’ll be guided through the marine life in the mangrove and sandy shore habitats by an expert from Encompass HK, which is a local social enterprise that promotes Sustainable Development Goals.
Check out the day’s events:
– An introduction to Hoi Ha Wan by Friends of Hoi Ha.
– A guided walk along Hoi Ha Nature Trail and Marine Park area with visits to Hoi Ha’s Antiquities Monument, an ecologically sensitive stream.
– An introduction to marine fauna by expert guide Dr. Cynthia Yau.
– A marine naturalist ID with a demonstration of the iNaturalist app.
Tickets are inclusive of a transportation fee, lunch, guided walk, snacks, handouts about Hoi Ha Wan, and a donation to Friends of Hoi Ha. They are priced at HK$300 and can be purchased here. This event is suitable for families with accompanied children over the age of 3.
On the day, be sure to wear closed-toe shoes, comfortable clothes, and a hat. A change of dry shoes is encouraged as footwear may get soaked on shore! Be sure to bring sunscreen, insect repellent, a small umbrella for shade, and at least 0.5L of water in a reusable container. There will be opportunities to refill your bottle! Keeping in mind that it’s world ocean’s day, do not bring single-use plastic bottles, containers, and wrappers!
The interactive and expert-guided tour of the marine ecosystems in this special marine park will make for a perfect way for the family to celebrate and appreciate World Oceans Day.
Celebrate World Oceans Day by spending an expert guided day at Hong Kong's Hoi Ha Marine Park!
