Visiting Macau Maritime Museum

Macau Martime Museum

Unveiled in 1987, the Maritime Museum in Macau is appropriately located near the Temple of A-Ma, the goddess and protector of seafarers and fishermen. This treasure trove of exhibits nestles in a new building whose facade evokes in visitors the impression of a stylized vessel.

Visitors can learn all about Macau’s maritime past from the traditions, techniques and trade of its local fishermen, to the history of the Portuguese and Chinese at sea, to maritime technology and its use over time. The museum is also home to a gallery with four aquariums and an exhibition area dedicated to stunning shells collected from around the world. The square outside of the museum, where visitors can appreciate the scenery on the river bank and of the busy harbor, is not to be missed. Sail boats are also available if you and your little ones are ready to set sail on the sea.

Why Little Steps Loves It:

There's a widespread appeal at the Maritime Museum with its multi-media displays, relics and models, archaeological discoveries and nautical instruments.

Who It's Perfect For:

Kids of all ages - it's great for a family day out. A range of workshops and activities from coloring and compass-making to sampan origami and learning marine knots are also available.

What Else:

The esplanade of the museum is open every day except Tuesdays (like the museum), and is a great spot for a break, a light bite, and river views.
