For Hong Kong families seeking a refreshing day trip across the border, Upperhills Shopping Mall (深业上城) in Shenzhen’s Futian District stands out as a vibrant, photogenic urban oasis. This sprawling mixed-use complex blends high-end retail, diverse dining, lush green spaces, and kid-approved entertainment—perfect for all ages. Unlike typical enclosed malls, Upperhills features colorful loft-style town areas, open-air walkways, and direct connections to parks, making it ideal for relaxed family outings with plenty of Instagram-worthy moments.

Whether you’re shopping for fashion, enjoying French-inspired department-store vibes at Galeries Lafayette, or letting the kids burn off energy at a supersized indoor playground (MeLand), Upperhills delivers a full-day adventure.

Little Steps Insider Tips: Team Little Steps recently visited not once but 3X!

  • SHEA’S TIPS: Shea and her son (age 14) enjoyed a visit to a fabulous chef table-style sushi restaurant, found a cool skate shop from Canada (Vision Street Wear), and visited the famous flower-filled Starbucks.  Shea wants to go back and stay at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, which sits directly next to the mall.  Shea says, “It felt like a mall in LA!  It had cool shops, an indoor and outdoor feel, and loads of international and local Chinese brands. There are loads of cool restaurants too.”
  • STEPH’S TIPS: Steph took her daughter (age 5) to Meland Club at Upper Hills: Shenzhen’s Ultimate Indoor Playground for a full day of play!  This indoor playroom can be crowded on the weekends, but when she went, it only had 15 people inside.  They also visited the Care Bear Cafe to enjoy lots of plushies
  • ONE MORE TIP:  For those looking for a staycation, Mandarin Oriental Shenzhen is located right in the mall.
