Talking Heads: Malcolm Kay

1. Where were you born and where did you grow up? Born in the UK and grew up in the Wirral, which is surrounded by the sea in North West England.
2. Where do you live in the city and why do you love it there? I live in Sentosa and am able to overlook the ocean. From where I live, I can see all the ships going by, the airplanes coming to land, and people cycling along the side of the ocean. It is a very calm and relaxing place.
3. What's in your lunchbox? It depends what the daily meal is at our Student Cafe. We take healthy food seriously at Stamford, and have partnered with acclaimed chef Emmanuel Stroobant to serve fresh, delicious and nutritious food, to help improve concentration and energy levels in our students. I could be eating an Asian dish like Thai Green Curry and then the following day Lasagna made with spinach and wholemeal pasta. It is exciting to see the choices each day!

1. What or who inspired you to become a headmaster? There have been many sources of inspiration throughout my life. My father was in education. I have been inspired by outstanding teachers like Howard Gardner who said, “It doesn’t matter what you teach, as long as you teach it in depth.”
2. Describe your school in 5 words or less! Achieve more than you believe!

1. What's your favorite thing on your desk and why? My favorite thing on my desk is empty space, because I can fill it with many exciting things every day at Stamford.
2. What are your 3 favorite children's books? Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle, Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Suess, and Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg.

1. What is the best way for parents to be involved in their children’s education? The best way for parents to be involved in their children’s education is to be involved with their school's Parent Teacher Association (PTA), engage with their teachers, and take time to read to their children.
2. Any tips for parents when applying for schools? Talk to as many people as you can and always visit the school for a tour.
3. What's the best advice a teacher or headmistress ever gave you? You can be anything you want to be!
