NEWS: North London Collegiate School Hong Kong Aims To Open In 2027

Big school news for Hong Kong! North London Collegiate School (NLCS), one of the UK’s top independent schools, plans to open a co-educational school in Hong Kong with local partner HOEH Group.
“We are delighted to be working with HOEH to bring NLCS’s unique blend of academic ambition and individual support for every child to Hong Kong, and we look forward to welcoming families and staff to the newest member of the NLCS family of schools,” commented Gwen Byrom, Director of Education Strategy, NLCS International.
Update (October 2026): NLCS Hong Kong is aiming to open in September 2027, pending licensing approval from the Education Bureau. We’ll share more once details are confirmed.
The Scoop? North London Collegiate School In Hong Kong
- Acting Principal: Mr. Richard Snape.
- Target Opening: September 2027 (pending Education Bureau licensing approval).
- Campuses: Two co-educational day schools. Exact addresses haven’t been publicly confirmed yet, but we understand the Junior School is expected to be in Kowloon and the Senior School on Hong Kong Island.
- Teachers: NLCS Hong Kong will hire teachers from around the world, who will train at the original NLCS campus in the UK so the school keeps the same standards and culture as its sister schools.
- Curriculum: Students will follow a bespoke programme based on the English National Curriculum (with local adaptations), with elements of the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) in the early years. This leads on to IGCSE, the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and finally the IB Diploma Programme. The planned grade structure is:
- First School: Grades 1 to 3
- Lower School: Grades 4 to 6
- Middle School: Grades 7 to 8
- Upper School: Grades 9 to 10
- Grades 11 to 12: IB Diploma Programme
- Academic Results: In 2026, NLCS (UK) achieved an average IB score of 43.2, ranking 1st nationally and 2nd globally among IB schools.
- Global Family: With the Hong Kong school, the NLCS family will total seven schools worldwide, including NLCS (UK) and campuses in Jeju, Dubai, Singapore and Kobe.

What Else:
North London Collegiate School (NLCS) was founded in 1850 by Frances Mary Buss, a pioneer of girls' education who campaigned for girls to have the same educational opportunities as boys. Its first international school, NLCS Jeju, opened in 2011, followed by NLCS Dubai in 2017, NLCS Singapore in 2020 and NLCS Kobe in 2025. NLCS (UK) is still a girls-only school, but its international schools are co-ed, and NLCS Jeju also offers boarding. All NLCS schools share the same ethos, so the feel is familiar from one campus to the next.
