For a day trip with a difference, head north away from the busy southern shores, deep into Bali’s interior to the Gunung Batur area. Amongst the area’s highlights is the Ulun Danu Bratan Temple, slap bang on the side of Lake Bratan, Bedugul. Come rain or shine Ulun Danu is a spectacle, as much for the location as for the temple complex. The revered Hindu-Buddhist temple is notably famous for the ceremonies held to pray for water to keep Bali’s farmers amply supplied. Keep the kids amused by viewing (and petting) the temple’s resident wildlife.
The journey there alone is worth the trip, as your vehicle climbs high up into Bali’s lesser known interior, with fields of crops, roadside restaurants and jaw-dropping views over the rice terraces. The drive takes you high up toward the volcanoes, into the cooler misty mountainous country. After your fill of the temple take a side trip to the nearby Bali Botanical Gardens at Candikuning, where even the less than green fingered visitor can’t resist loving the lushness of the hundreds of tropical plants. Kids will go nuts at the adjacent Bali Treetop Adventure Park, where they can swing and swoop in style!
The location is magical, and this is a family road trip to remember.
Folks who appreciate scenic cultural adventures, a northern day trip with added attractions and special surprises.
The nearby Candikuning market is excellent for snacks and spices as well as the locally grown succulent, sweet strawberries.
