The world-renowned Macao International Fireworks Display Contest returns for its 34th edition, lighting up Macao’s night sky with colour and creative flair on select evenings across September and October 2026. Taking place on Saturdays, a Friday, China’s National Day (October 1) and a Sunday finale, this spectacular event draws visitors and locals alike to celebrate with dazzling firework shows above the city’s iconic skyline.
Recognised as one of the most prestigious competitions of its kind, the contest welcomes top pyrotechnic teams from around the globe — this year including Brazil, Switzerland, Italy, Canada, Portugal, Korea, Thailand, China, the Philippines and the United Kingdom — each presenting their own breathtaking display in a celebration of artistry and international friendship. (Fun fact: the UK’s Pyrotex Fireworx took first prize in the 33rd edition, and they’re back to defend the title!)
All displays take place over the sea area in front of Macau Tower, with two teams competing each night at 9:00pm and 9:40pm. Best of all? It’s completely free to watch.

Tips For Families
- Arrive early — the best waterfront spots fill up well before 9pm, especially on National Day.
- Bring a picnic mat, water and snacks; there’s a fair bit of waiting between the two displays.
- Pack ear defenders for babies and noise-sensitive kids.
- Book accommodation ahead if you’re travelling from Hong Kong — National Day weekend gets busy.
- Plan your exit. Taxis vanish afterwards, so know your bus route or walk a few blocks before hailing a ride.
- Little ones fading fast? Watch the 9pm display, then head home — you’ll beat the crowds.
