Hot off the press! FAO Schwarz opened a private, invitation-only store in Hong Kong. FAO Schwarz is the oldest toy store brand in the US. The brand has been in business for over 155 years, making FAO Schwarz the oldest toy store in the US. On numerous occasions, it has been referenced in popular culture with scenes in movies such as ‘Big’ in which Tom Hanks notoriously danced across the store’s giant piano floor. Unfortunately, that store closed in July 2015, due to the sky-high rental prices, but the legend of this stunning store lives on. Did you know it was acquired by ThreeSixty Group in 2016 and now they plan to expand in Asia in partnership with Kidsland.
Designed by Studio X, the 1150sqft FAO Schwarz Hong Kong store secretly opened last month a prototype retail concept for Asia. It allowed the company to test out design elements and store features to prepare for the grand opening of this iconic store in Mainland China and beyond!
Parent brand, ThreeSixty opened a new store in New York this year and early this month announced plans to open a store in Beijing. The prototype FAO Schwarz Hong Kong store is located inside the brand new ThreeSixty Group Hong Kong office. The company will continue to work with FAO Schwarz to further help develop flagship stores across the world next year. Watch this space!
This stunning toy store brings back memories in all of us and now we can catch a glimpse of this wonderfully nostalgic toyshop.
Anyone lucky enough to have a ticket, if not try to catch a glimpse from the outside for a few shots of the famous piano floor.
FAO is coming to Asia and is planning to open stores in Asia and beyond.
