During the school closure, The Harbour School (THS) got creative and brought their school-wide events online to continue the traditions and keep their students of all ages and interests engaged, and of course, have them learning. Some of the most popular virtual programs that took place are outlined below.
THS had their Sports Day canceled in February, and even though they kept pushing the date forward, it was soon apparent that it would not be advisable to have such a get-together. However, the incredible PE team decided to bring Sports Day online. The team had to reinvent how sports day was and just do it differently.
Every day that week, the students received a specific challenge to complete. Students engaged with each other via Seesaw or Google Classroom and submitted entries for the chance to be included in that day's highlights. Some of the challenges included creating your own ninja courses at home to accuracy skills and dance moves. And although Sports Day, was not your typical sports day, the marvelous school spirit at THS was not diminished in the slightest!
Each year, THS greets the spring with an Arts interim where we invite artists from all walks of life (internationally and in Hong Kong) to join us and have a week’s residence at THS. This year, THS continued virtually with a few special guests so that their students would have the opportunity to explore the joy of the good work that exists outside of the usual box. From creating beautiful indoor flower gardens out of paper to fashioning wearable art from metal to producing stop-motion animation movies, it was a hive of activity and buzz from Prep to Grade 12 at this year’s Arts Interim which ran 25 courses at the same time. Traditionally an annual, one-week intensive Arts immersion, this year’s Arts Interim was adjusted for virtual learning and held over three days. Judging from the smorgasbord of creative work and happy smiles on our students, taking the event online was a great success!

To continue their tradition of hosting a talent show, this year The Harbour School (THS) asked students to submit video entries.THS then compiled all 22 acts and hosted a virtual watch party with the PTA where all families got to enjoy and watch the show together at home. It turned out to be a great success and allowed our community to come together and watch our students perform acts they had spent months practicing at home.
