Pining for a change of scenery from the urban jungle we live in? City Sprouts, a redevelopment of the former Henderson Secondary School into an urban farming concept and social space, promises an enriching and fun experience for the whole family!
Start the day by grabbing a meal at the former school’s canteen that has been converted into an open-air dining concept and a pet-friendly communal space. It features stalls such as Pyroast for a fresh cup of coffee and tea, O-Kome for healthy rice bowls, Park for hearty Western dishes, and Pang’s Hakka Noodles for a piping bowl of noodle and soup. At times, the communal space will also house events and farmers’ markets where you can shop sustainable items and more!
Once the kids are all fueled up, go on a guided farm tour around the greenhouses, meet the farmers, learn about the different farming methods, harvest herbs, and maybe even spot some chickens running around! The guided tours are usually accompanied by mini-workshops or demonstrations, and you’ll want to book a slot in advance to avoid disappointment.
If that’s not enough to burn off their energy, the newly opened kids playground in Sprout Hub offers play spaces that encourage the development of imagination, coordination, strengthening, and motor skills at the sandpit, mud kitchen, obstacle course, and chalkboard. Seats are available for parents to rest while keeping a lookout for the kids.
It’s the perfect place for the kids to get hands-on experience and learn more about farming. The open-air dining space is just steps away from the greenhouses whenever they get hungry or in need of a rest.
