Dempsey Hill sits just minutes from the relentless hum of Orchard Road, yet it feels like an entirely different world! This former British military camp has traded its soldiers for a collection of the city’s most ambitious chefs. Because of its history, many of the best restaurants in Dempsey Hill are housed in sprawling, refurbished barracks! These structures offer a sense of scale you rarely find in Singapore, with massive high ceilings and grand windows that look out over tangled tropical greenery.
Candlenut is the first Peranakan restaurant to ever earn a Michelin star, and it is known for using high-end ingredients like Westholme Wagyu in its family-style recipes. One of the best dishes to try is the Blue Swimmer Crab Curry because the chefs pick all the sweet meat out of the shells for you, so you don't have to get your hands messy! Another popular dish is the Wagyu Beef Rib Rendang, which is slow-cooked for hours until the meat is incredibly tender. For a dessert you won't find anywhere else, look for the Buah Keluak Ice Cream; it’s made from a dark nut that gives it a unique flavor similar to earthy dark chocolate with a tiny hint of chili. If you want to sample a bit of everything, you can pick the "Ah-ma-kase" menu, which is a spread of about 15 different small plates.

Da Paolo Dempsey is a contemporary Italian restaurant and bar where you can watch chefs hand-craft noodles right before your eyes at the live pasta counter or grab a seat near the custom wood-fired oven to see your pizza stretched by hand. The menu is packed with popular dishes, like the famous 8-Cheese Pizza drizzled with truffle honey and the spicy Carbonara Calabrese, which is a creamy, kick-filled twist on the classic. It’s much more than just a restaurant; you can wander through their retail emporium to buy the same artisanal cheeses and cured meats used in the kitchen, or cool off with a scoop of Sicilian Pistachio Gelato from the brand’s largest selection. Whether you're dining under the lemon-covered ceilings indoors or on the leafy outdoor patio, don't leave without trying the Pistachio Tiramisu—it’s a nutty, modern upgrade to a family recipe that has been a secret since 1989!

Converted 1930s chapel. Soaring ceilings. Massive stained glass windows. Bold dark red and beige interiors. These details make Claudine one of the most visually impressive restaurants in the area! The menu focuses on home-style French cooking, like the Claudine Bouillabaisse, which is a heavy seafood stew filled with John Dory, scallops, and razor clams. You could also try the Organic Egg Forestiere, which features a 40-month parmesan crust and a rich black truffle vinaigrette. Another popular dish is the Chou Farci, which is a whole cabbage stuffed with foie gras and bacon. If you want to see something cool, the staff will light your Steak Flambe or Crepe Suzette on fire right at your table! It is an expensive place, but the portions are big and it is a very beautiful spot to take someone for a memorable night out!

La Terrace is the laid-back younger sibling of the famous Claudine, located right behind the main restaurant in a beautiful glasshouse setting! It feels like a relaxed holiday in the south of France, with plenty of natural light and a breezy outdoor area where you can bring your dogs. The coolest thing on the menu is their "French version" of chicken rice—the Half Roasted Chicken—which is served in a cast-iron pot over fragrant Niigata rice with crispy garlic and lard. Since the menu focuses on smaller sharing plates, you should try the Sardine Toast or the cheese-filled Tapioca Fritters to start. If you love a good drink, they have a dedicated gin bar with over 25 different labels to choose from! For dessert, the Freshly Baked Madeleines come out warm and smelling of lemon and honey. It is a much more more laid-back, "wallet-friendly" alternative to the main restaurant, Claudine.

You can choose your dinner directly from massive glass tanks filled with live crabs, lobsters, and prawns! This restaurant chain is most famous for its Chilli Crab, which comes in a thick, sweet and spicy sauce that you absolutely have to soak up with fried buns called Mantou. Since cracking open crabs is a messy business, everyone gets their own bib and gloves to wear while they eat! Beyond crab, popular dishes include cereal prawns, herbal drunken live prawns, salted egg dishes, and even non-seafood options like mocha pork ribs. Being in Dempsey Hill, this branch of Jumbo Seafood is much more spacious and relaxed than the crowded city spots.

Long Beach Seafood is known for creating the original black pepper crab, which is still its best-selling dish. Like Jumbo, you pick your seafood from live tanks—crabs, prawns, lobsters, razor clams—but Long Beach offers a wider range of premium, imported seafood to choose from. The cooking goes harder on the spice, with peppery sauces that are drier, sharper, and more intense rather than sweet! Beyond crab, popular orders include live drunken prawns in herbal broth, garlic razor clams, and roast duck.

Red Sparrow serves high-end Vietnamese food with flavors so authentic the restaurant is officially recognized by the Vietnam Ministry of Trade and Industry! The menu was developed by studying under street hawkers in Ho Chi Minh City, featuring a "Gold Standard" Chicken Pho with broth simmered for hours and Beef Short Ribs that fall right off the bone. You can even find rare treats here like coffee-glazed donuts or wok-fried Daylily flowers, with many key herbs and spices flown in directly from Vietnam. The interior here is beautiful and quiet, decorated with colorful Hanoi lanterns and hand-painted murals, making it perfect for a date or a peaceful lunch.

RedDot Brewhouse is a laid-back brewery and restaurant where the beer is brewed on site, so what you’re drinking is actually fresh! The seating is mostly open and breezy, with wooden tables, greenery all around, and a small stream running right next to the dining area—something you don’t come across often here! The menu includes classic western foods, with burgers, pizzas, and solid mains that pair naturally with beer. It’s pet-friendly, works well for groups, and is the kind of place where you can sit for hours, order another round, and not feel any pressure to leave.
