On the fourth Sunday of every month, a group of people can usually be seen huddled together over a spread of books laid in mats and boxes at the corner of a parking lot in Taman Desa. Next to the books, you’ll find little potted plants in different sizes and shapes neatly laid out on the ground. The brainchild of founder, Gladys Wong, the KL Book Exchange is a passion project established to give old books a second chance at life.
Book lovers can bring their books to the monthly gathering and exchange them for others, or buy books they want at RM$5 each. Gardening enthusiasts are also welcome as plants are available for exchange or purchase. Interestingly, if you have neither books nor plants to exchange, you may also bring over your recyclable items to be recycled. So why not bring down the whole family and check out this unique monthly get-together to barter your books or plants from 8:45am to 10:45am at the Faber Tower parking lot in Taman Desa!
We just love, love, love the idea of bartering books and plants for more books and plants. Giving old books a new lease of lifesure beats sending them to landfills!
Avid readers and gardening enthusiasts may just find a gem or two here.
You might even make a new friend or two in this charming neighborhood.
Keep tabs on the latest gathering on the KL Book Exchange Facebook page.
