Good old Marks and Spencer has some stunning wrapping options as does IKEA. All of the bigger department stores are a safe bet such as Parkson, Metrojaya and Robinsons if you’re looking for more traditional paper, and MPH, Borders and Time have a top notch selection.

This is a wonderful, albeit relatively new, tradition. Grab yourself an Elf on the Shelf – you can get an original complete with little Elf book from Amazon or Lazada, or opt for a just as adorable imitation from Spotlight – and set them to work acting as Santa’s ears and eyes over the next month. Give him or her a name and then get some fab ideas from Pinterest where there are loads of suggestions for what compromising positions your kids can find their elf in when they make their way to breakfast every morning up to Christmas.

Looking to give your children a tasty festive treat before they head off to school? Pick up a choccie advent calendar from BIG at either Publika or Plaza Batai. Marks and Spencer also have some Disney themed calendars, complete with daily chocolates as do Village Grocer and Cold Storage. If you’d prefer to avoid all things sweet, try an IKEA calendar and fill the little individual boxes with whatever you fancy – Shopkins, Lego figures – anything really. And for those who want to encourage their little ones that Christmas is a time for giving and being kind check out our very own Little Steps Kindness Calendar by following us on Instagram.

Kids love decorating gingerbread houses – as do parents - so make sure you don’t disappoint this year. If you don’t have time, or the inclination, to make your own, you can pick up a ready-to-decorate version at IKEA, Jasons or Spotlight. And if you literally can’t even manage the decorating part, Coffee Bean has one and all the hard work has been done for you.

If you’re living far away from friends and family, being organized when it comes to Christmas cards is important…unless you use Moonpig, which has an enormous selection of cards from picture cards to ones that you can personalize with photos of your very own beautiful smiling families. Moonpig is available in the UK, US and Australia. Otherwise, Marks and Spencers have cards as do Time, Borders and MPH – either in a box, or to buy individually.

Nothing says Christmas like a cup of tea and a mince pie! But when you're living in the tropics it's not quite so easy to find the necessary ingredients to make your own. That said, you may get lucky and find mince meat in Village Grocer, BIG or Jasons - but it's not a guarantee! Thankfully though, most of the major supermarkets stick a wide selection of tried and tested brands including Walkers, Mr Kipling and Waitrose. Plus as we get closer to Christmas you should find them in some of the bakeries such as at Jasons, BIG and at The Bread Shop.
