Hong Kong’s taxi-hailing landscape is transforming fast after the closure of the HKTaxi app in April 2025. Whether you’re a daily commuter or a visitor, there are now more and better taxi apps to choose from than ever before. In this updated guide, we’ve included the newest app on the market, DASH Taxi, plus a range of options you may not have heard of, each designed to make your journey smoother and easier. Some apps offer exciting joining rewards and let you book not just meter taxis, but also private cars, vans, bicycles, tricycles, and even skateboards. For quicker service, always enable location services, book during off-peak hours when possible, and consider trying multiple apps to increase your chances of a fast pickup. Read on for ratings, features, pros and cons, and download links for Hong Kong’s best taxi apps in 2025.
Uber remains a staple for many, offering both regular ride-hailing and a metered taxi option in Hong Kong. Its global brand, advanced app, and robust safety features make it a reliable choice, though surge pricing can be an issue as well as poor geo-localization. Uber now also offers Family Profiles and Teen Accounts: Family Profiles let you add up to five members under one account for centralized payments and real-time trip tracking, making it easy to manage rides for the whole household. The Teen Account feature allows parents to create supervised accounts for riders aged 13–17, with enhanced safety measures like trip tracking, PIN verification, and mandatory ride sharing with guardians. These features make Uber especially convenient and safe for families.
TAMA Taxi started as a community-driven service for Hong Kong locals and now offers a unique, fun approach to ride-hailing. You can order red taxis, New Territories taxis (though wait times can be long), vans, and even motorbikes through the app. For something different, TAMA Taxi also lets you rent bicycles, tricycles, and skateboards - though we haven’t tried those features yet! Booking is available via app, Facebook Messenger, or Telegram, and the service operates 24/7. While the user base is small and the app is basic, TAMA Taxi stands out for its flexibility and playful options.
