Offering a bespoke program of study to students between the ages of 3 and 11, the team at Shrewsbury International School Hong Kong knows a thing or two about primary education and the journey of successful graduation. With students now at home and thriving in many of the leading secondary schools in the region, we caught up with three families from the Class of 2022 to learn more about their time at school and their hopes and dreams for the future.

Andrea joined at the point of foundation in 2018, she has seen the school grow and change over time, but one thing, she argues, has remained unerringly consistent. “Everyone at Shrewsbury is ambitious – they want to work hard, they want to do well and they want the best for one another,” she explains, “I have always felt cared for, looked after and inspired here”.
“Andrea has enjoyed an amazing and broad collection of academic, musical and sporting opportunities at Shrewsbury,” explains mum, ”but the commitment of the team runs far deeper. Shrewsbury students are guided and supported personally. Our daughter shares a rich and varied range of positive relationships and will treasure her primary years forever.”
Nathaniel joined as part of the same cohort and he speaks with ambition and purpose. “My favourite subject is Chinese,” he shares. “I love the challenge and found the Dynasty study undertaken earlier this year particularly fascinating.”
“Shrewsbury students enjoy an incredible and unique range of opportunities,” says Nathaniel's mom. “The facilities on campus are unrivaled, but it’s the quality of the relationships shared that makes Shrewsbury really stand out. Staff are incredibly attentive and services at every level are well personalised. My son is thriving in a group of children and adults that care deeply about his success and wellbeing.”
Akshadha joined Shrewsbury in 2019 as a Year 4 student. “We had lots of options available to us,” explains her mom. “But the care, attention and commitment towards the experiences of primary aged children at Shrewsbury is undoubtedly unique. Our daughter is seen and known – the Principal welcomes her to school personally each morning and greets everyone by name. She has made exceptional academic progress and become more confident and independent as a result.”
Akshadha talks glowingly about her school experience, highlighting the library as a favorite spot. "I'll miss my teachers enormously when I graduate in the Summer, but I know that I'm well prepared and look forward to visiting to share my experiences with other Shrewsbury students.”
Secondary school selection at Shrewsbury is guided by a designated School Partnership Coordinator and stands as one of the key advantages highlighted at the point of enrollment. Delivered over the course of a student’s final three years at school, individualized support draws upon a shared and growing knowledge of each child’s academic and social profile.
“The process of choosing a Secondary School seemed daunting at first,” Akshadha’s mom explains, “but we were so well guided.” Nathaniel’s mum agrees. "We attended a range of informative presentations and gained so much from the experience and expertise available to us.”
Andrea’s mom concludes, “We will be terribly sad to leave, but we know that we have been exceptionally well prepared for everything yet to come.”
Akshada, Nathaniel and Andrea will graduate in June alongside all other members of the Class of 2022 and we wish them all the very best in their future endeavors, through Shrewsbury and Beyond.
