Octopus Launches Easy Ride In Hong Kong And Beyond
The Smarter Taxi & Ride-Hailing Solution
Octopus has introduced Easy Ride, a convenient taxi ride-hailing service designed to integrate transportation options directly into the Octopus App. By partnering with taxi fleets, technical providers, and ride-hailing platforms, Easy Ride allows users to book trips with ease and pay using their Octopus card, Mobile Octopus, or Octopus Wallet—all in Hong Kong dollars. This eliminates the need for multiple apps or registrations, making travel simpler and more efficient.
The service is available in Hong Kong as well as internationally in Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam, with plans to expand coverage overseas. Catering to diverse passenger needs, Easy Ride provides access to various vehicle types, including Hong Kong red taxis, luxury cars, accessible vehicles, and options for extra luggage or business travel.
One of Easy Ride’s standout features is its ability to aggregate multiple taxi apps, such as BigBoss Taxi, JOIE, Bao Taxi, and more. This integration makes it quicker and easier to find a ride by matching users with the nearest available driver across platforms. Users can also manually select or unselect specific providers in the app to find the most cost-effective or convenient option, giving them flexibility over pricing and availability.
How to Use Octopus Easy Ride
- Access the Service: Open the Octopus App, go to the Travel Page or Quick Actions > Transport Services, and choose Easy Ride.
- Set Up Payment: Register as an Octopus Wallet user and link your payment method via Octopus Wallet, Mobile Octopus, or your physical Octopus card.
- Select Providers: Choose from the list of taxi providers or leave all selected for quicker matching.
- Book a Ride: Input your pickup location and destination. The app will calculate the fare based on factors like distance, time, and traffic conditions, showing cost options for each provider.
- Track Your Ride: Check the driver’s live location in the app. Adjust your pickup point manually if necessary.
- Complete Your Trip: Pay automatically upon arrival. If tolls or other charges apply, the app will notify you of any additional payment or refund.
