Reasons WestK Picnic Fest Is The Easiest Autumn Outing In Hong Kong

Dates, Rentals, Food Stalls & Family Workshops For The Whole Family In West Kowloon

2026 Sep 18 - 2026 Oct 11

Imagine a harbourfront picnic where you carry nothing but the kids! WestK Picnic Fest hands you mats, kids’ chairs, tables, and lanterns right on the lawn, across selected long weekends from September 18 to October 11, 2026, at Harbourside East Lawn in Art Park, 2pm-9pm (2pm-6pm on Thursday, October 1). Throw in food stalls, live music, family workshops, and a Bike & Picnic Pass, and you’ve got the easiest autumn day out in town.

Lawn admission is free, so you only pay for food, rentals, workshops, or the optional pass. Grab picnic gear at the Information Booth: kids’ or adult foldable chairs and mats HK$40, tables and lanterns HK$50 (each plus a HK$100 deposit), and free umbrellas with a HK$100 deposit. Rentals run 11am-6pm weekdays and 11am-8pm weekends and public holidays, returned same day.

The market lines the same lawn, 2pm-9pm on fest days. Coffganic x Pale Ink does burgers, pasta, and chicken tenders; DOTOM brings gimbap and tofu-pocket rice; Nutmad x The Picnic Club plates garden-fresh dishes. Kowloon Walled City street-food twists appear September 18-20 and 25-27 only, with Donut Demo x Being Soda taking the later weekends. Art Park outlets also sell picnic sets through November 30, 2026, with two complimentary foldable chairs to redeem the same day.

Workshops with The Picnic Club Hong Kong give kids something to make, not just something to eat. Family sessions include Moon Rabbit Lantern (September 19), Natural Perfume (October 1), and Sea Glass Handcraft (October 4). Ages 4 and up are welcome and under-12s need an adult. Drop-in crafts like botanical knitting and flag making run Saturday-Sunday, 4pm-7pm, free with HK$200 spent by electronic payment at WestK that day. Check @thepicnicclub.hk for ticketed sessions.

Live music plays against the harbour (lineup here), and the family highlight is the DJ x Bubble Party, keeping younger kids on the lawn after the last dumpling. Want wheels first? The HK$348 Bike & Picnic Pass covers a four-hour tokyobike rental (adult, junior, kids, or pet bike), a free mat and lantern, a workshop voucher, and extra discounts. Then explore the rest of the district: Art Park grass, the promenade, and nearby museums if energy holds.

Highlights At WestK Picnic Fest

  • Rent kids’ chairs, mats, and lanterns on the lawn and skip the MTR bag juggle
  • Book family workshops (lantern, sea glass, perfume) for ages 4+ with an adult
  • Add the HK$348 Bike & Picnic Pass for kids’ bikes plus a free mat

Little Steps Insider Tips: Arrive at 2pm, rent chairs first, then buy food so the deposit queue is behind you. Note the market closes at 6pm on Thursday, October 1. Shade is limited on East Lawn, so grab a free umbrella. If a toddler melts down, walk the promenade for five minutes and come back for bubbles instead of packing up.

How do I picnic at WestK without bringing a mat?

Rent a picnic mat for HK$40 plus a HK$100 deposit at the Harbourside East Lawn Information Booth. Kids’ chairs, tables, lanterns, fans, and free umbrellas (deposit only) are on the same counter. Return everything the same day before the booth closes.

How do I get to Picnic Fest on the WestK Ferry?

Board at Central Pier No. 9 for WestK Quay beside M+. The crossing takes about eight minutes and leaves roughly every 30 minutes from 8am. Adults pay HK$20; kids aged 3-11 pay HK$10. Walk the harbour path from the quay to Harbourside East Lawn. Weekend boats run until 11pm.

What is the Bike & Picnic Pass?

It costs HK$348 and covers a four-hour tokyobike hire (including kids’ bikes), free mat and lantern rental, one workshop voucher, and extra shop discounts. Buy it at the lawn booth or WestK tokyobike near West Gate. Daily quotas apply.

When should I go with children?

Start at 2pm on a Friday or Sunday if you want chairs and workshop slots. Thursday, October 1 is shorter (2pm-6pm). Late afternoon catches music and, on some days, the DJ x Bubble Party before bedtime.

What family workshops can we join?

Look for the family sessions: Moon Rabbit Lantern on Saturday, September 19, 5:45pm-7pm; Natural Perfume on Thursday, October 1, 2pm-3:30pm; and Sea Glass Handcraft on Sunday, October 4, 2pm-3pm. Ages 4+; under 12 with an adult.

Why Little Steps Loves It:

WestK finally treats picnic kit as infrastructure, not a parent homework list, so harbour time can be about grass, snacks, and bubbles instead of who forgot the mat.

Who It's Perfect For:

Families who want a screen-free autumn afternoon by Victoria Harbour, grandparents who prefer chairs to grass, and kids who will sit longer if a bike or bubble set is part of the deal.

What Else:

How to get there: WestK Ferry from Central Pier No. 9 to WestK Quay (about 8 minutes, from HK$10 child / HK$20 adult), then waterfront walk to East Lawn; or MTR Kowloon Exit C1/D1 via Elements bridge. If you're driving, closest parking spots are the M+ or Palace Museum.

Little Steps Insider extra: Take the 1:45pm or 2:15pm ferry from Central so you land just as the 2pm fest opens, then rent chairs before the queue builds. Coming home, walk back to WestK Quay in daylight if you have preschoolers; the promenade is flat and lit, but the last weekday sailing from WestK is 10pm.

Where To Find It:

Additional Info:

Harbourside East Lawn is in Art Park at the West Kowloon Cultural District, Tsim Sha Tsui. Use Austin or Kowloon MTR and walk the waterfront. Children under 12 should be with an adult. Confirm workshop quotas and pass stock on the day at the Information Booth. Official details: https://www.westk.hk/en/event/picnic-fest
