A Week-Long Celebration Of Indian Culture In All Its Richness

India by the Bay is a vibrant week-long celebration of Indian art and culture, co-presented by Asia Society Hong Kong Center. The festival offers a diverse range of programs spanning music, theatre, dance, food, wellness, cinema, and literature, encompassing both classical and contemporary expressions. It provides a unique chance for the people of Hong Kong to immerse themselves in India’s rich cultural heritage. The festival’s inclusive approach reaches out to a wide audience, engaging with various communities and the diaspora.

  • November 8: Join a conversation with renowned author and historian William Dalrymple as he discusses his internationally acclaimed podcast, Empire.
  • November 9: Embrace wellness with morning chanting, pranayama, and yoga led by George Dovas and Devika Virmani. This will be followed by an enlightening session on Ayurveda with Ramkumar Kutty and Kavita Khosa, founder and creative director of PUREARTH.
  • November 9: Indulge in food & fashion with an evening featuring cuisine by chef Ashish Bhasin and couture from designer Sanjay Garg’s Raw Mango.
  • November 10: Literature enthusiasts can explore “Words on Water,” featuring three sessions in collaboration with the Hong Kong International Literary Festival. Vikas Swarup will delve into his novel The Girl with the Seven Lives with Jim Hildebrandt, while Aarathi Prasad will discuss her book Silk: A History In Three Metamorphoses with SCMP’s Zuraidah Ibrahim. Additionally, John Zubrzycki will talk with Fionnuala Mchugh about his book Dethroned: The Downfall of India’s Princely States.
  • November 10: The evening will feature a spotlight on song with Usha Uthup, the queen of Indian pop, in conversation with Sanjay K. Roy.
  • November 11: Experience a unique musical performance featuring George Brooks on saxophone and Utsav Lal on piano, blending Indian classical music with American jazz, joined by guzheng player Yeung Ching Ho and tabla player Jorge Ramiro.
  • November 12: The event will conclude with a captivating dance performance titled Endless Love, featuring Bharatnatyam soloist Rukmini Vijayakumar, Cantonese opera performer Pui Yan (Eliza) Li, and percussionist Sunaad Anoor.
