From now until July 16, you can visit Tsim Sha Tsui to find local artist Ton Mak’s first solo exhibition, titled ‘Welcome Home’. But what makes this exhibition special? It creates a wacky and whimsical world, unlike any other typical gallery would, to showcase what truly makes somewhere feel like home. As Ton Mak says, “home” is an ambiguous concept, but is rooted in moments of peace surrounded by nature rather than a fixed address. Hence, the 29 acrylic paintings are focused on non-manmade environments, instead featuring starry skies and night forests. The exhibition also has two brand-new characters and a 4-foot-tall wood sculpture of a pink dinosaur!
Mak’s art is centered around Flabjacks, who are her colorful round characters she describes as “chubby friendly folk”. In this imaginary wonderland of Flabjacks, home is anywhere, whether it be in the skies, in daydreams, or even through small conversation! Visit with your friends and family to enter the Flabjack world!
A cheerful summer pick-me-up!
Ton Mak's vibrant and carefree art style is sure to catch the attention of young children too!
Don't miss the 4-meter-tall pink dinosaur sculpture!
