Weekend Itinerary From KL To Malacca

If you have been bored of your mundane routines and looking for some weekend escapes then why not plan for an exciting road trip from KL to Johor and Malacca.

Location and Distance: Johor Bahru, located at southern tip of Malay Peninsula is at a distance of 368 km from Kuala Lumpur and takes about 3.5 hours by road, while Malacca located in southwestern Malaysia is approximately 122 km and roughly takes about 1.5 hours and is on the way to Johor.

  • PLANNING YOUR ROAD TRIP FROM KL:

    Do your advance hotel bookings at Johor and Malacca. In Johor, the best place to visit with family is Legoland, a kids favourite theme park having adventurous rides and a thrilling water parks. You can have a day well spent here. It is advisable to buy tickets in advance to avoid any last-minute disappointment. Legoland has its own theme hotel but is quite expensive compared to the hotels around in the city, however its worth staying if you are planning a 2 days trip to enjoy and be able to use the facilities.

    ROAD TRIP CHECKLIST

    Here are a few things to keep ready in advance to make your road trip hassle-free and more enjoyable. Get your car serviced, fuel-filled and in tip-top condition. Pack up your favorite snacks and drinks to enjoy on the go. Since, it's a little long journey you might start getting bored so better get along some reading books, board games, UNO, etc that kids can play to have their time well spent. Some litter bags, water bottles, first aid box, and whatever you think might get handy on the way.

  • DAY 1: GETTING STARTED ON YOUR ROAD TRIP

    Set off early morning at around 6am to avoid any traffic in KL. Make sure you have kept all your stuff before leaving. On day 1, we suggest you drive straight to Legoland in Johor. It's good to wear your swimwear underneath your clothes so that you can straightaway hit the waterpark upon reaching. The drive to Johor is quite smooth with a number of rest places on the way to take a break and get yourself re-energized. Keeping half an hour rest break, you should reach Legoland around 10am and that's when the park opens!

  • DAY 1: Legoland, Johor

    Although kids wouldn't want to come out of water park but if you have bought only a day’s pass, better spend half a day at water park and the 2nd half at other exciting rides to make the best use of your day pass. Enjoy your quick lunch at one of the poolside restaurants before you leave the water park. You can be in Legoland until 7pm (closing time) in the evening and am sure you all will be completely exhausted by then to straight away head back to your hotel for dinner and a good rest. Johor is also quite famous for its local cuisines incase you want to give it a try!

  • DAY 2 - Afternoon / Evening - Malacca

    The next morning after breakfast, drive straight to Malacca which is midway to KL. Make sure you have taken all your stuff from the hotel room. You should reach Malacca in almost 2-2.5 hours drive. After hotel check-in, grab your lunch and go around the city for sightseeing. Malacca is mostly famous for its beautiful nightlife so you should save enough energy for it. However, during the day you can visit museums - Maritime Museum which is a replica of a Portuguese ship carrying loot plundered from Malacca which sank off the coast of Malacca on its way back to Portugal. Another one is the Royal Malaysian Navy Museum exhibiting salvaged remains of the ships that sank in Malacca straits. You should also visit picturesque Dutch Square in front of Christ Church, distinguished by bright, terracotta-red colonial Dutch buildings.

  • DAY 2 - Evening - Malacca Nightlife

    At night, you can go for a pleasant River Cruise with some lively music on board to set in a cheerful mood. The eye-catching artistically painted walls of the shops and the guesthouses and dazzling lights of the city are worth seeing and make your boat-ride even more enjoyable. Also experience a colorful trishaw ride which is a powered rickshaw decorated with lovely flowers, bright lights, and sometimes with kids' favourite cartoon characters. These lively transportation are available in front of Christ Church and offer sightseeing excursions around the town with the running commentary from its driver. Jonkers Street: A central hub for antique collections and vintage fashion with ubiquitous bargains and a wide variety of scrumptious food options attract visitors from all over places. The best part of Jonkers Street is its night market on Fridays and Saturdays when you can see the place in full swing with a street party-like atmosphere with live music around. There is a number of bars and restaurants around this place including Hard Rock Cafe with its spectacular view offering good quality food and live music entertainment.

    After enjoying your dinner at one of these memorable places, it's time to get back to the hotel for a goodnight's sleep!

  • DAY 3: Malacca To KL Drive

    Wake up fresh the next morning, enjoy your breakfast and check out for your journey back to KL. It will take almost 2 hours to reach home - your safe abode!
