Initially, a mining land, the government spent millions rehabilitating this area, and the results speak for themselves. The 3,100 hectares of land consists of lakes, marshes, and lowland tropical forests and is home to an array of flora and fauna.
With 142 aquatic plants and animals, 40 types of fish, 210 species of birds, 23 types of mammals, and 220 types of terrestrial plants and herbs, there’s no shortage of fascinating creatures to observe and learn about.
The wetlands are divided into three zones: the Recreation Zone, Education Zone, and Conservation & Research Zone. Although walk-in visitors are only allowed in the Recreation Zone, you can still have plenty of fun here! Activities include bird watching, cycling, photography, jungle trails, and observing the hippos and crocodiles in their natural habitat.
If you’re interested in exploring further, book a guide and venture into the Education and Conservation & Research Zones. Here, you can take part in night safaris, biodiversity education for students, and even spend the day at Paya Indah Wetlands.
And if you want to extend your stay, there are fully air-conditioned chalets that can accommodate two people for RM120/night, and air-conditioned hostels that can accommodate 16 males and 16 females for RM9 per person for one night.
