Crazy week in the city?  Make like a celeb and hide from your fams at this hidden gem for family holiday froliks…only a few hours away from manic Jakarta!

This newly dicvoered gem on West Cost of Java, only about two-and-a-half hours drive from the centre of the city, will have you blissed out in minutes. Rumah Joglo Samblo is a charming B&B located just outside of Carita, and is the perfect place to escape the city. The property is actually a 50-year old house brought from Central Java to the West Coast where it was lovingly restored. With two bedrooms and two bathrooms, and an extra couch it can comfortably sleep 5 adults. The house sits right on the waterfront and is only 200 meters from the beach.

If jungle hikes are your thing, this place is ace. Guided walks up the side of a mountain to a stunning (and slightly terrifying) waterfall can be arranged with the caretaker of the house. If aquatic adventures are more your style, there’s plenty to be had here. On a fine day in dry season, don a mask and a snorkel and dive into the paradise right outside your front door. Or, arrange a boat trip to nearby Krakatau, where you can hike up a volcano, swim on black sand beaches, and explore pristine coral reefs. If you’re seeking total relation, just hang out on the porch drinking fresh coconut water and listening to the sea breezes rustle through the palm trees. But remember…always schedule your daily massage.

Whatever you do, make sure you have the house’s caretaker and his family cook you up a feast of fresh, locally caught fish. You won’t be sorry, and you certaintly won’t want to leave.
