The first school offering the Waldorf education system on Hong Kong Island is set to open for the 2017-2018 school year, subject to approval by the Education Bureau. Conveniently located in Kennedy Town, the Island Waldorf School of Hong Kong is a non-profit, bilingual school, and is affiliated with and supported by Highgate House School, the oldest and largest Waldorf education kindergarten in Hong Kong. Waldorf education was developed by Austrian philosopher Rudolph Steiner, who believed that curriculum and school life should correlate with what a child experienced on his or her own, developing at that same pace, and should therefore be age-appropriate and child-centred.
