Island Waldorf School of Hong Kong

Holistic Waldorf Curriculum On Hong Kong Island

Island Waldorf School Of Hong Kong - Little Steps Asia

The first school offering the Waldorf education system on Hong Kong Island is set to open for the 2017-2018 school year, subject to approval by the Education Bureau. Conveniently located in Kennedy Town, the Island Waldorf School of Hong Kong is a non-profit, bilingual school, and is affiliated with and supported by Highgate House School, the oldest and largest Waldorf education kindergarten in Hong Kong. Waldorf education was developed by Austrian philosopher Rudolph Steiner, who believed that curriculum and school life should correlate with what a child experienced on his or her own, developing at that same pace, and should therefore be age-appropriate and child-centred.

Why Little Steps Loves It:

In Waldorf education formal learning starts only from the age of 6 or 7, a time when the child is deemed ready. It strives to instil in children a joy of learning, creativity and open-mindedness. Arts, crafts and other activities are integrated into every lesson, and there is continuous appraisal as opposed to the pressure of tests and exams. Teaching takes place in blocks of one subject and the school strives to ensure that a class teacher stays with his or her students for up to eight years so that they can form a long-term relationship, supporting students in their longer-term development.

Who It's Perfect For:

Waldorf education for children aged 5 to 11. The school is currently enrolling students aged 5 to 6 and 6 to 7 in the Foundation Year and Grade 1 classes for the 2017-2018 school year.

What Else:

The Waldorf education system is the fastest-growing independent school movement in the world.
