Nay Palad Hideaway Siargao

If we were to pick a handful of words that best describe Dedon Island, they would be: barefoot, luxury, intimate and remote. This palm-fringed paradise located on Siargao Island, southeast of Cebu, is truly idyllic and about as far removed as you can get from other overdeveloped Philippine destinations.

The emphasis at Dedon is on outdoor living – some nights the pool area is transformed into an enchanting open-air cinema, and we highly recommend massages in their outdoor spa pavilion. There is an overwhelming feeling of space throughout the resort, with airy designs, calm beach and extensive grassy lawns – a welcome treat for kids normally cooped up in city apartments all day. We especially love the GM’s little dog Erni, who runs around like he owns the place.

SLEEP: With only 9 villas, Dedon is as boutique as they come. Utilizing only local materials, villas are spacious and open, with amazingly designed bathrooms and hanging loungers on huge verandahs. The two-story Deluxe Villas are ideal for families with a bedroom upstairs that is perfect for kids, while parents can retire to the sea-facing master bedroom downstairs.

PLAY: The kid’s ‘village’ features bouncy trampolines enclosed in white-latticed domes, a foosball table, and a little swing hanging from a tree. Dedon is all about the activities, and guests can choose from paddle boarding in the mangroves, hobie cat sailing, sea kayaking, surf lessons with Sean the activities manager, or day trips to neighboring Pansukian Island for a sandbank picnic.

EAT & ENJOY: Dining at Dedon is an event in itself, starting with your first meal when Brian, the Spanish chef, comes out to ask about your dining preferences. The resort does not have a set menu, rather a daily selection made from the freshest produce that is shared family-style amongst your group. A favorite of ours was the Philippine-style spit roasted pig and the homemade ice cream. The outdoor bar is beautiful and a lovely spot for an evening aperitif after the kids have gone to bed.
