If you’ve ever set foot in Singapore, you know that Bintan Island, in Indonesia, is the ultimate weekend-warrior haven! Just a one-hour ferry ride separates wild city life from a family beach holiday and it just so happens, there’s a new lady in town, one that actually holds a Guinness Record, waiting to host you and the little ones! Curious? We hope so as this is our new fave stay!
The Doulos Phos Ship Hotel is the result of a full refurbishing project of the MV Doulos, holder of the “World’s Oldest Active Ocean Going Passenger Ship”. Although the vessel has been actively sailing since 1914, serious issues arose from an inspection in 2009, sending the “Grand Old Lady” into retirement at the age of 95!
The vessel was, for many years, a Christian floating bookshop when finally Bintan Resorts went on to fully renovate the MV Doulos and transformed it into a hip boutique hotel with just 104 suites with many onboard and inland amenities. Just a 10-minute walk from Bintan’s Bandar Bentan Telani ferry terminal, the hotel is permanently anchored on a private isle.
