At the National Day Rally 2026, PM Lawrence Wong unveiled a slew of new benefits for Singaporean families. From more childcare leave and lower preschool fees to a new financial support package and better odds for families applying for a flat, you can look forward to receiving more support from the moment you welcome a newborn until they turn 17 years old. We breakdown the key takeaways for families and how you can maximize the benefits.

Details of the National Day Rally 2026: 

  • Who is it for? All Singaporean families.
  • When will the benefits kick in? 
    • SG Child Support Package: 1 April 2027
    • Extra BTO/SBF Ballot Chances For Families With Children: February 2027 Sales Exercise
    • Lower preschool fees: Progressively from 2028 with target fees reached by 2030
    • Full childcare & infant-care subsidies: TBC
    • Expanded government-supported preschool network: TBC
    • Enhanced childcare leave: TBC
    • Government reimbursement for employers for child-related leave: TBC
    • Additional support for families with 3+ children: TBC
  • Where will it be credited? 
    • $10,000 Baby Gift: Parent’s designated bank account
    • $2,000 annual Child Credits (ages 1–16): Credited as LifeSG credits, which can be used at participating merchants
    • CDA support: Credited into the child’s Child Development Account (CDA)
    • $10,000 PSEA top-up at age 17: Credited into the child’s Post-Secondary Education Account (PSEA)
    • $5,000 MediSave Grant for Newborns: Credited into the mother’s MediSave account
  • How will I receive the benefits? Financial support will automatically be credited to the designated accounts respectively. No action is needed on your part.

THE SCOOP: Key Takeaways from the National Day Rally 2026

  • More childcare leave per working parent per year (only applicable to Singapore Citizen children aged 12 and below). 
    • 8 days of childcare leave for one child
    • 10 days for two children
    • 12 days for three or more children, per parent each year.
  • A new SG Child Support Package with up to SG$70,000 for childhood years.
    • Every eligible Singapore Citizen child will receive the same baseline support regardless of birth order.
    • The new package includes:
      • $10,000 Baby Gift
      • $2,000 in annual Child Credits from ages 1 to 16,
      • Additional CDA support (TBC)
      • $10,000 PSEA top-up at age 17
    • For parents who already have children, the package will also be extended to existing Singapore Citizen children who are born or turn 1 to 17 in 2026, with benefits based on their age.
  • The Government will cover more of the cost of child-related leave for employers.
    • The Government plans to reimburse employers for the full duration of eligible child-related leave schemes, up to the relevant reimbursement caps.
  • Preschool is set to get significantly cheaper.
    • Government-supported centers are expected to progressively bring full-day childcare fees down to $150 a month and infant care fees to $300 a month by 2030.
    • Full childcare and infant care subsidies will also be extended to families with Singapore Citizen children regardless of the subsidy applicant’s working status.
  • More affordable care beyond preschool.
    • The Government will expand capacity and improve affordability at student care centers in primary schools.
  • Additional ballot chances for families with children who are applying for a BTO or SBF flat.
    • From the February 2027 sales exercise, first-timer families with or expecting children will receive one additional ballot chance for every Singapore Citizen child aged 18 and below when applying for BTO and SBF flats.
  • Families with three or more children get extra support beyond the baseline package.
    • Families with three or more children will receive additional help in healthcare and transport, while additional housing support for larger families is also being studied. Details have yet to be announced.
