After 15 years of serving Middle Eastern cuisine, Chef Bjorn Shen is pivoting Artichoke into a New School Pizza Parlour at New Bahru. Inspired by his pizza awakening in Osaka in 2017, Bjorn has created a menu tailored for Singaporean tastes, blending nostalgia, bold flavours, and playful twists. The concept revives the 80s–90s American-Italian pizzeria vibe with thick, crunchy crusts, generous toppings, and inventive flavour combos that are far from your typical artisanal Neapolitan pizza.
The 90-seat restaurant offers indoor and al fresco dining, a backyard space for private parties, and a lively retro ambience complete with stained-glass lamps, pop art, and a throwback playlist. From inventive pizzas and fried chicken to creative desserts, Artichoke is designed to make dining fun, social, and memorable for families, foodies, and adventurous eaters alike.
Chef Bjorn Shen’s shift to pizza comes after 15 years of Middle Eastern cuisine and a desire for a new challenge. Having explored Neapolitan pizza in Osaka, Tokyo, and Rome, he wanted to create something tailored to Singaporean palates — thick, crunchy, loaded with toppings, and fun to eat.
He describes it as “changing the weapon in the same game” — keeping the Artichoke spirit alive while reinventing the menu. This pivot allows Artichoke to open all day, offer delivery, and create a dynamic, playful experience for diners in the bustling River Valley area.
Artichoke’s interior is a visual feast with stained-glass lamps, colourful pop art, and retro-inspired décor. Old-school hits on the playlist add to the nostalgic, lively energy. The space accommodates 90 diners with tables seating 4–6 people and includes al fresco front yard seating and a backyard for private events.
Whether you’re enjoying a slab with friends, sharing a round with family, or sipping on a dessert sundae, Artichoke balances retro fun with bold, memorable flavours in every dish.

The menu includes standout dishes like:
Dirty Duck Stack: Balinese spiced duck, snake bean lawar, sambal matah, coconut cream, mozzarella.
Bacon Apple Pie Slab: Pancetta, apple butter, brie, mozzarella, hazelnuts, rosemary.
Tropic Thunder Round: Parma ham, jackfruit, burrata, mint, honey drizzle.
Super Crunchy Fried Chicken (SG$24++): Chinatown Spice & Fried Peanuts or Za’atar Honey & Lebanese Garlic Sauce.
Desserts: Sundaes with tropical ice cream, banana bread croutons, lemongrass cream, and meringue.

Average spending per person is SG$35–SG$40, making it accessible for a family outing while delivering bold, punchy flavours.
Opening Hours:
Tue: 5pm – 10pm
Wed–Sun: 11pm – 10pm
We love how Artichoke turns pizza into a playful, interactive dining experience. The menu is imaginative yet approachable, featuring slabs, deep-fried rounds, and shareable plates that make it perfect for families exploring bold flavours together.
The retro design and vibrant playlist add a touch of nostalgia while keeping the atmosphere lively and fun — a perfect mix of taste, energy, and playful vibes for kids and adults alike.
Families with older kids, pizza lovers, and adventurous diners will enjoy Artichoke’s inventive menu. Kids can explore sweet and savoury options like Bacon Apple Pie Slab or Green Supreme, while adults dive into bold creations like the Dirty Duck Stack.
It’s also ideal for casual hangouts, birthday celebrations, or weekend outings where everyone can share dishes, sample different flavours, and enjoy a retro-inspired dining experience together.
Artichoke serves pizza in two unique formats: Slabs (Roman/Detroit style) and Rounds (deep-fried, Montanara-inspired). Slabs feature a half pecorino, half mozzarella crust for crunch, while Rounds are airy, puffy, and baked for light crispness. Slabs also come in Stacks, with fillings like Green Supreme or Meat Supreme.
