This new original musical from The Singapore Repertory Theatre’s The Little Company is a reimagining of the classic tale, The Gingerbread Man which is a classic folk tale for Christmas. Far more than just a tale, this story has been written traditionally with a well-loved script re-told through a very simple script and just a few bite-size songs. This delightful combination of ‘song and story’ will enliven and enrich learning, both in music and literacy, as well as give younger children a manageable experience of performing a mini-musical.
The Gingerbread Man is an uplifting story about the value of teamwork and friendship, set to a rousing, rock score. Ginger is a giant cookie who can walk, talk and most importantly, he loves to run, run, run as fast as he can! Teamwork is especially important on the farm where Ginger lives, but Ginger would rather do things on his own. Ginger ends up making a terrible mess and breaking his mother, Anya’s most prized possession; the oven. Ginger is taken under the influence of Sly Fox, who lures him away from the farm with a promise of an exciting local race in which the first prize is a brand new oven. Of course, Sly Fox’s real aim is to gobble Ginger up as soon as he can get Ginger back to the fox den. Anya and the farm animals realize Ginger is in danger and come to his rescue, but Ginger must learn how to work as a team in order to defeat the fox. With vibrant songs and lots of action, this fun-filled musical is sure to delight children of all ages.
