This highly acclaimed original production is set in Austria on the brink of WWII and tells the story of Maria who proves too high-spirited for the religious life and is dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval Captain. Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern Captain.
The original 1959 Broadway production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, a Grammy Award for Best Show Album, and was Rodgers and Hammerstein’s biggest success. The 1965 movie starring Julie Andrews as Maria won five Oscars, including Best Picture, and remains one of the most popular movies of all time.
