The cult Boston scoop shop first arrived in the city a few years back and quickly built a following among families, largely thanks to its famously over-the-top cones, the ones rimmed in marshmallow and rolled in cereal, sprinkles or crushed sweets. It’s the kind of thing that stops kids mid-pavement and makes for an extremely good photo, which is presumably why the internet lost its mind over them the first time around.

Founded in Boston in 1975, Emack & Bolio’s started life serving late-night ice cream to touring musicians, and the rock-and-roll streak has stuck. Expect playful flavour names, generous scoops and none of the restraint you’d find at a more grown-up gelateria.

The new Central location puts it within easy reach of a proper family day out. Hollywood Road sits within walking distance of Tai Kwun, PMQ and Man Mo Temple, so you can build a morning of art, history and running around, then finish with a cone before the inevitable meltdown sets in. It’s also an easy add-on if you’re already doing the Central–Mid-Levels escalator route with kids in tow.
