Welcome to Shanghai Street — the go-to destination for chefs, home cooks, and restaurateurs in Hong Kong. Nestled in the heart of Yau Ma Tei, this bustling street is lined with shops overflowing with everything you could possibly need for the kitchen. From sleek tableware and professional-grade knives to industrial-sized appliances and quirky cooking gadgets, it’s a one-stop haven for anyone passionate about food and entertaining.
Whether you’re revamping your kitchen, planning a birthday party, or prepping for an elegant dinner or backyard BBQ, Shanghai Street has you covered. Begin your adventure at the Yau Ma Tei MTR station and stroll along the left side of the street — don’t hesitate to pop into any shop that catches your eye. Many stores sell similar items, so compare prices and don’t be shy about negotiating. Some vendors offer discounts, especially if you’re buying in bulk, so bring your bargaining A-game!
Keep in mind that not all shops open at the same time. Most stores start opening around 9:00–9:30 AM, but some, especially smaller or more specialized ones, may not open until 11:00 AM or later.
Pro Tip: If you’re looking for a specific store or item, it’s best to call ahead or check their social media pages to avoid a wasted trip.
While you're exploring Shanghai Street, take a little time to discover some of the nearby gems in the Yau Ma Tei neighborhood.
Just a short 3–5 minute stroll away, the Yau Ma Tei Fruit Market offers a glimpse into old Hong Kong with its historic shophouses and early-morning hustle. Even if you're not shopping for fruit, it's worth a visit for the atmosphere and vintage photo ops.
If you’re in need of a coffee break (or a plushie fix), head over to +Bread, the cute Jellycat-themed café!
For a bit of quiet and history, visit the Tin Hau Temple, one of the oldest in Kowloon. A short walk away, it’s a serene space with beautiful details and traditional incense coils — a peaceful contrast to the busy streets outside.
Lastly, culture lovers should check out the Yau Ma Tei Theatre, a historic building now home to Cantonese opera performances. Even if you don’t catch a show, the architecture and heritage plaques make it a worthwhile stop.
Shop till you drop for the kitchen, cooking, BBQing, baking and party supplies galore on Shanghai Street!
Home chefs, party planners, home entertainers and more!
If you don’t know the name of a specific item that you are looking for, bring a picture or pull one up on your phone! Any shopkeeper will point you in the right direction if their shop does not carry it. Also, stop by the Tin Hau Temple while you are in the area.
From the Yau Ma Tei MTR station, exit at Exit C. Walk along Man Ming Lane for 7 minutes and you'll arrive at Shanghai Street. Start walking (and shopping!) on the left side of the street.
