Dine under the stars and get your fill of authentic Balinese cuisine at this well-established culinary icon in Tanjung Benoa. This al fresco eatery is a cultural gem, and it has been vaunted as one of the best restaurants on the island to sample the complex flavours that characterise traditional Balinese fare. Yum!
A must-try for first-timers is the Balinese Rijsttafel or Balinese Rice Table, which features an impressive spread of 15 dishes. Portions are kept small (great for the kiddos!), enabling hungry diners to try it all! The platter can easily feed a family of four. Some of the dishes are quite fiery, but there are also a number of mild options for children to try including Pork in Sweet Soy Sauce, Lamb Stew and as well as three variations of Sate. A selection of dainty Balinese multi-coloured cakes and desserts accompanied by a juicy medley of tropical fruits, makes for a delightful and sweet ending.
Wednesdays and Friday evenings are the best times to visit the restaurant with little ones. Balinese dancers and musicians take to the floor on both days, providing a fascinating glimpse into the island’s mystical culture.
Staff are friendly, efficient and eager to please, and are very welcoming to children. There’s also an open kitchen which doubles as another entertainment vantage point for budding epicureans. A complimentary return chauffeur service from hotels in the vicinity is also available for diners who book at least four hours in advance.
Experience an authentic and much more graceful and peaceful side of Bali, away from the hustle and bustle of the highly commercialised resorts.
All are welcome, but its ideal for families with children aged five and above with adventurous palates.
Cooking classes are conducted every Monday, Wednesday and Friday which includes a fascinating trip to a local wet market. Highly recommended for gourmands aged eight and up.
There are two dining establishments in Tanjung Benoa called Bumbu Bali, but locals and visitors agree that the original, showcased in this article, is the better of the two.
