Choosing the right car seat for your little bub is by no means an easy task. Factors to consider include cost, comfort, compatibility and most importantly, safety of your child when he/she sits in one. Since 1 January 2012, regulations regarding car seats dictate that age will no longer be used as a criterion to determine if car seats are required. Instead, anyone below the height of 1.35m must be secured with a child seat appropriate for their height and weight or use a booster seat to supplement the car’s seat belt. Forward or rearward-facing?
Not only is the type of car seat crucial, but the position in which you place it in the car is equally important. Children below the age of 2 years are highly recommended to face the rear for increased safety. Most child car seats can take the weight of kids up to approximately 3 to 4 years with a weight limit set by individual manufacturers and models.
