Choosing the right car seat for your little bub is by no means an easy task. Factors to consider include cost, comfort, compatibility and most importantly, safety of your child when he/she sits in one. Since 1 January 2012, regulations regarding car seats dictate that age will no longer be used as a criterion to determine if car seats are required. Instead, anyone below the height of 1.35m must be secured with a child seat appropriate for their height and weight or use a booster seat to supplement the car’s seat belt. Here are the best infant and child car seats in Singapore. We also include some of our favorite portable car seats in Singapore on the list.
Forward or rearward-facing?
Not only is the type of car seat crucial, but the position in which you place it in the car is equally important. Children below the age of 2 years are highly recommended to face the rear for increased safety. Most child car seats can take the weight of kids up to approximately 3 to 4 years with a weight limit set by individual manufacturers and models.
What exactly is the ISOFIX system?
The ISOFIX is the international standard for attachment points for child safety seats in passenger cars that makes fitting the seat quick, simple and safe. These attachment points are built into almost all new cars.
Little Steps has researched the top car and booster seats just for you according to various categories so you can select which best suits your little one’s needs. Here we go…
Maxi Cosi has long been THE brand in Europe and Singapore alike. What most mums love about the Pebble is that it's relatively lightweight and portable. Plus, it's also compatible with Quinny and Bugaboo strollers. With this model comes the FamilyFix car seat base which is an ISOFIX base and sold separately. Getting the FamilyFix is not compulsory; you can still install the Pebble in your car using the standard seat belt. Overall, this seat provides a safe and comfy ride for your little bub and it's easy to bring along on your travels.

Once again, Britax takes the top spot with their amazing 360 swivel feature. The seat makes switching from rearward to forward-facing a breeze and is designed to be safe and super user-friendly. This is one of the few car seats that allow your little one to sit rearward-facing (always the safer option) until 4 years old. ISOFIX is required to install this seat and considering it's heavy, it would not be advised for mums who require a portable seat. As with other Britax seats, this one exudes in quality and design for sure.

The minute you mention car seat to anyone, Britax definitely comes to mind. Unlike the Maxi-Cosi, Britax is known for their heavy duty car seats which are not as portable as the former, but sturdier for sure. As compared to other brands, the quality and finishing of Britax car seats are in a class of their own. The Britax Eclipse is our top pick as it's safe, sturdy, easy to recline, easy to clean and more importantly, affordable. This model also has a narrow base, so it's suitable for smaller cars, hatchbacks and even those with sunken-in sports seats.
