Did you know that over 60% of your body’s immune system is located in your digestive system? In theory, in order to boost gut health, you have to eat fermented or cultured foods such as Korea’s infamous kim chee. But not everyone fancies eating fermented foods – it is often an acquired taste.
Valerie Teo opened up her cafe, Good Food Heals in February this year to address that very problem. This homey eating spot serves up bento boxes filled with an array of fermented vegetables to suit all palates and they even carry pint-sized meals for kiddos. Best of all, they do home deliveries (although this is limited to districts 01 to 08 and 22 to 24 at the moment).
One of our faves? Try the Mexi Loco a try and enjoy a colorful combination of cultured guava pineapple, cultured beetroot apple slaw, chickpeas, spinach as well as smoked salmon. It was served with Arroz Verde, a fragrant, pea-green Mexican rice-based speciality flavoured with cilantro, spinach and garlic. You will feel super energised after gobbling up this tasty (and oh so healing) fare! Wish it down with Pineapple Bubbles, a refreshing anti-inflammatory and immune-boosting cultured concoction.
Healthy food certainly does not always have to be boring or bland!
It is the only place in town which offers a carefully curated range of delicious and nutritious fermented meals.
Mamas and papas into alternative medicine and natural ways to improve health.
On top of their bento boxes and cultured drinks, the cafe also sells takehome jars of cultured vegetables. Our favourites are the Japanese Plum Citrus Tomato, Beetroot Apple Slaw, and Spicy Kim Chee.
